Power FAQs

What you didn't know

As we all know, the Power Tables are a fairly basic outline of the abilities of all the different powers available. But, every now and then, you might have thought to yourself; "Hmm.. I wonder if X power can do this?". Of course, you then thought to ask about it in the power questions thread. Well, this thread now compiles all the answers to questions asked about powers, so that everybody knows all the aspects to powers that not everybody knows.

It is recommended you read both the Power Table and then the FAQ of a particular power before you ask your question, just to save time. If you feel your question hasn't been address, then go ahead and post it in the Power Questions thread and someone will answer it for you, and then that answer will end up in here.

To make it easier to read, this thread has been split up into a different post for each Level's set of base powers, and then the rings have been broken up as well. Just click on one of the links in this post, and it will bring you directly to the Level you want, or to the specific power. When it comes to powers that are available as a base power and as a ring, the questions are addressed in the Level section, and not the ring section.

Trainee Level

Charmed Powers

Temporal Stasis
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.
TS cannot be stopped by TK.

Telekinesis
When performing a kick/punch, though you may not use TK on yourself, you can release a telekinetic force on your opponent in the spot where you hit them, in essence boosting the strength of the physical attack, while not actually TKing your own foot/fist.
While there is no level-size for TK, as you can TK a person from Trainee level, you should still be realistic for your level and not be a Trainee TKing real heavy stuff around.
You may use your hands to TK stuff from Level 4+.
The higher your level, the greater your precision of control with TK. So, at Trainee-Level 2, you wouldn't be able to hold someone in mid-air and twirl them about, but this would be possible at a higher level. Same goes for the direction or distance you throw someone with TK.

You can't TK objects travelling in orbs via TKO.
You need to see what your TK’ing at all levels, even Level 6. This means you can’t TK when blinded.

Astral Projection
Bringing out an astral, even at the end of a post, still counts towards the number of posts you are allowed keep it out. Best to make every astral post count!
Even though an astral cannot use AP to summon an astral, you can't trade this power and choose a different ring for your astral, based on the limited powers of yours that an astral will have.
Astrals, zombies, and splits are able to cast spells.

Telekinetic Orbing
You can't TKO part of an object, unless it is usually easy to remove. So, you couldn't TKO a sword's handle to make someone drop the blade, for example.

Objects travelling in orbs can't be TKed.
You may TKO blasts/bolts at level 3+.

Levitation
Levitating takes off your quota in the first post (when you activate the power). Subsequent posts where you are still in the air do not continue to drain from your quota.
You could jump and propel yourself upward from the ground to increase the speed of levitating, it would serve as a minor boost (not unlike pushing yourself off a wall to give yourself extra momentum when running)

Deflection
Solid powers that can be deflected includes any elemental balls, blasts, beams, etc. So wind blasts, water balls and the likes are deflectable, within your level's abilities.
From Trainee - Level 4, when it says you can't deflect physical attacks, it means attacks such as punches/kicks, etc.

Level One

Molecular Powers

Conjuration
Conjured items must appear either in your hands, or directly beside you.
You may not conjure liquid of any kind.

Molecular Remotion
At Level 1-3, when the object reappears randomly, this just means it appears somewhere that doesn't have an effect on the fight.
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.
This power requires sight, even if you know exactly where an object is.

Destruction of Property
Since teleportation is instantaneous, DoP can't be used like in Charmed to hinder one's teleporting away.
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.
You may not use DoP on a limb until Level 4.
Your hands have to be aimed in the general direction of the object you’re trying to DoP.
DoP cannot be stopped by TK.

Body Alteration

Molecular Sizing

Phasing
You may not phase down into the ground to avoid attacks, you need Surface to do this. You may however phase through a ceiling, if you’re telekinetically thrown into that.
You can phase through people and leave objects inside them (their stomach, etc)

You may only phase specific limbs of your own, and not those of others.
You are susceptible to TS when in a phased state. You will return to solid state.

Level Two

Energy Powers

Kinetic Energy
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.

Luminakinesis
Light balls and blasts are solid.
Lum is not an elemental power.

Electricity Generation
Electric bolts are considered a solid power.
EG can be channelled from any major body part.
EG is not an elemental power.

Chaos Energy

Cosmic Energy
You may TK/etc a ball away if it has not yet exploded.
The explosion causes blindness, so blocking your character from the explosion would negate blindness.

Gravitational Energy
From Level 5+ you may repel or attract people by making yourself the centre of gravity.

You can't use GE to attract something that's attached to someone. Ex: You couldn't attract someone's shoe as they're wearing it.
GE cannot be used to repel solid powers.

Level Three

Mind Powers

Empathy
You do not need to be able to actually see a person to project an emotion, but you must be aware of their presence and where they are.

Eokinesis
Touch is not required, you need only to see the person to use Eokinesis on them.
When your level is lowered you keep all your powers but you must play them at the lower level (if that power is not available at the lower level, make an educated guess as to how it'd be limited - ie lower level range/size/number/duration etc.

Illusions
When illusions become powerful enough to be felt, it means they look, sound and feel as though they were real. Ex: If someone creates an illusion that a ring of fire is around you, you would feel that fire as though it were real. However you could also defend against it as though it were real, meaning if you phase through it, just as if it were real, you would stop feeling it.
You do not need to be able to actually see a person to cast an illusion on them, but you must be aware of their presence and where they are.

Psionic
You can communicated telepathically with level-number of people per post at level 5/6.
You do not need to be able to actually see a person to project a command, but you must be aware of their presence and where they are.

Psyonic Waves

Mind Protection
While usually activated prior to any kind of psionic attack, MP can be activated just as the attack happens, if you have a legitimate/realistic way of knowing it's happening.
MP does not block against Temporal Stasis.
MP allows you to sense when a mental power is being used against you, allowing you to defend yourself.

Level Four

Elemental Powers

Hydrokinesis
Controlling stray water in the arena basically means if there's a puddle (for example), you can control and manipulate this water for whatever use you desire, within your abilities.
You cannot control your own water manifestations once you release them. For example, if you send a water blast at your opponent, and they turn it back on you, you cannot control it either as 'stray water' or as your own creation.
It's possible to surround a body part with water, within level-size, to attack. Ex: Surrounding your fist with water before punching.
You may create 'blasts' at level 3.
When used with Elemental Transformation, objects that do not cancel out water (i.e. fire) will pass through you.
Hydro must be created from your hands, however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)

Pyrokinesis
You may breathe fire, but only from Level 3+.
You may create 'blasts' at level 3.
When used with Elemental Transformation, objects that do not cancel out fire (i.e. water) will pass through you.
Pyro must be created from your hands, however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)

Aerokinesis
You may create 'blasts' at level 3.
The higher your level, the great the accuracy and force behind your attacks (and the further/faster your opponent would go if hit).
You may not manipulate the air around other people, all air from blasts having to come from you.
Gusts/balls can be used to redirect solid powers (how accurately is dependent on your level).
You can create any kind of ‘level-sized’ air/wind object/manifestations, but they would have similar effects (knockback effect)
Aero must be created from your hands, however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)

Terrakinesis
You may create 'blasts' at level 3, with the exception of dust blasts.
Terra must be created from your hands, however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)

Glaciokinesis
You may freeze objects you are carrying, within level-size.
Ice blasts are considered to be solid, and not just ice energy.
You may create 'blasts' at level 3.
Glacio must be created from your hands, however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)
If you freeze someone with Glacio, all momentum gets frozen, e.g. if you were in mid-air and you got frozen, you’d still be in mid-air.
When you freeze someone with Glacio, they can use teleportation to get out of the ice.
At level 6, you can actually freeze a limb, in which case it can be shattered.

Lightning
You may not change the form of lightning, it only appears in the form of a bolt (or a flash when you use it that way).
You cannot charge items with lightning.
Lightning must be created from your hands (or the sky), however if your hand is in contact with your leg, you can ‘transmit’ the power through your feet unaffected (you are immune to your own power before it leaves your possession)

Level Five

Natural Powers

Magnetism
You do not need Conjuration to create metal objects with Magnetism.

Acidkinesis

Audiokinesis
You may create voices with Audiokinesis, as well as normal sounds.
Using the echolocation ability to find someone to attack counts against your attack quota.
Sonic booms don't have the strength to break through solid matter, or knock back a person/projectile.

Mercury

Weather
While you need not possess Aero/Hydro to create wind or rain with Weather, if you wish to control a tornado's every movement, then you would need Aero, etc.
Arena-wide attacks last for ‘level number’ of general posts.

Atmosphere Manipulation
Walls formed at Level 5-6 stay in the place they were created, and do not move about.

Like Mind Protection, you can sense when a status attack is coming at you and effectively block it.

Aerokinesis

Alignment Reversal

Alteration
With the exception of objects created with Conjuration, you may only alter non-magical objects. So, no changing an ice spike, since it was created with Glaciokinesis.

Ancient Summoning
Bringing out an ancient summon, even at the end of a post, still counts towards the number of posts you are allowed keep it out. Best to make every post count!
You may summon any of the creatures from the list at any given time (assuming you haven't already summoned another creature).
Summoned creatures may only use the projectile features of powers (eg, if you had AE the creature could fire salt blasts, but not breath underwater).
The creatures may only use powers you possess.

Angelic Form

Animal Metamorphosis
Fish out of water aren’t allowed. Dolphins are mammals, but to turn someone into a bottlenose dolphin, you need to be level 4+.

Animation

Animorph
You do take on an animal's natural abilities and weaknesses while in that form. Ex: A fish can breathe underwater, a bird can fly, etc.

Atmosphere Manipulation
See Level Five Powers

When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.

Body Alteration

Break
You may use Break as a projectile power from level 3+ for Ancient Summoning.

Celerity

Chronokinesis
You can't use Chronokinesis to speed yourself up, as this would border on Celerity.

Cosmic Energy

Devotion

Drain
Tendrils can extend only within level-range.
Other powers cannot be projected through the tendrils (i.e. can't use PA through a tendril or emit an ice blast).

Electrocution
Electrocution is possible through any kind of skin-to-skin contact, not simply by the hands.
You may use water, metal, etc as a conduit for your electrical currents at any level.
Electrocution doesn't make you immune to electric attacks. So making yourself into a conductor of electricity won't stop you being hurt by electric attacks.
This power doesn't travel via blasts, simply by physical contact, orcontact with conductors.

Elemental Transformation
You may transform into elements using the following powers: Pyrokinesis, Hydrokinesis, Aerokinesis, Glaciokinesis, Terrakinesis, Lightning, Geokinesis and Aurora Execution.
When transformed into lightning your body would be composed of bits of lightning. You could describe this as you wish, but, essentially, you'd be made of electricity.

Energy Absorption
When transferred injuries disappear from an opponent, they come back to you.
Injuries not transferred do not return.

Energy/Chemical Transformation
You may transform into energy/chemicals using the following powers: Acidkinesis, Audiokinesis, Kinetic Energy, Luminakinesis, Electricity Generation, Chaos Energy, Cosmic Energy and Gravitational Energy.

Glamour
If a part of the body is glamoured into metal, and someone uses DoP to blow it up, the glamour would end and the body part would be badly damaged, but not blown up.
The glamour works as a coating over the skin, and doesn't turn the body into the glamoured substance.

Invisibility

Marrow

Mimic
You can mimic powers such as Split/Astral/HW, within your level's limits.
Mimicked powers are one-use only, and you can't keep them after the post you mimic them in.
The act of mimicking a power doesn't count off your quota, just using the mimicked power does.
An attack directly used against you need not actually hit you, just needs to have been intended for you.
When mimicking a power, you use it straight away, you can't hold onto it for later.
You cannot mimic bonus/custom powers.
Mimic follows your restrictions, e.g. a level 1 throws one water ball, but a level 2 could send two back.

Nature Control

Nova
The creation of a nova ring takes some time to expand from one’s body, but it would still be pretty rapid.
You can use Nova on an animal less than or equal to the size of a human.

Nullification
Disabling someone's magical abilities means all magical abilities - their entire scope and ability to cast spells.
Disabling someone's physical movement would make them like a solid statue. You wouldn't be able to move their limbs.

Phasing

Potence

Potions
When the potion vial is broken, the specific effect takes place immediately, so you couldn't break a vial, and then TKO the vial's contents (at Level 3+) and expect the effect to happen wherever you TKO the liquid potion to, as the effect would have already happened upon breaking the vial.
In one single post, you may only use a specific potion once on one opponent. For example, you can't throw two exploding potions at the same time in one post, even at two different opponents.
The explosion potion levels up the same as Destruction of Property, except that it doesn't allow you to blow up a limb.

Power Absorption
When absorbing a power, your opponent doesn't know you are doing so, though they may assume that through the physical contact you may be doing so. But, this can only be a guess, there is no "feeling" of one's power/s being absorbed.
When you absorb powers, they are yours and yours alone. So, if you summon an Astral/Zombie/any other second body, they won't possess the absorbed powers.
You can't absorb powers from someone who has absorbed them.
If you absorb a power that allows you to call a second body, that second body would still last level-number of posts, even if your absorption wears out sooner.
Absorbing powers doesn't count towards your quota, unless you're stripping the powers from a person at Levels 5-6.
You may absorb powers from multiple people, as long as your quota hasn’t been filled yet, e.g. a level 3 can copy 2 powers from one person, and 1 power from another person.
After absorbing (a) power(s), you know which the powers are that you absorbed.

Presence

Protection Shield
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.

Psionic
See Level Three Powers

Psyche
Psi weapons may be TKed/TKOed away from someone using them, but you may not use them by doing so, if they are not yours.
Psi darts only pierce at lower levels, where not stated.
This power is purely offensive, so you couldn't create a shield out of psi energy.

Psyonic Waves

Regeneration

Solar Power

Switch
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.

Teleportation
Teleportaton is instantaneous.
Since it is instantaneous, DoP can't be used like in Charmed to hinder one's teleporting away.
If you got frozen by Glacio, you can teleport out of the ice.

Rings of Power

Zodiac Series

[Aries] - Crystal
When it comes to a mass of smaller fragments solidified to one object by a power, then it only counts towards one quota. Ex: Sand/A sand ball.. So, you don't work on each singular grain of sand, but the ball as a whole.
It is reasonable to assume that when falling, you could create a Crystal wall to help break your fall, or to land on and then use your control over it to lower yourself to the ground. This can only be done within level-range, however.

[Taurus] - Great Horn
You have no powers while you have bull features. This includes the ability of this power to summon a stampede (ie you cannot summon a stampede while in bull form).
You may shift in and out of bull state within a single post. Each shift detracts from your quota (offence or defence depending on reason for shift and use of bull/normal state).

[Gemini] - Split
Bringing out a split, even at the end of a post, still counts towards the number of posts you are allowed keep it out. Best to make every split post count!
Splits are able to cast spells.

[Cancer] - Hades Waves
Bringing out a zombie, even at the end of a post, still counts towards the number of posts you are allowed keep it out. Best to make every zombie post count!
Zombies are able to cast spells.

[Leo] - Lion
If you are level 3+ you may summon lions either the size your level allows, or the smaller size/s allowed at lower levels.
A lion may not use elemental/projectile powers (depending on level) which you have PA'd or mimicked etc. It may only use powers you actually possess.
Phantom Arrow does not count as a power usable by a lion. Lum and EG are energy powers, thus only usable at level 5/6 by a lion.

[Virgo] - Heaven's Treasure
Heightened sense of touch grants agility. This isn't the same as Celerity. Agility is more increased ability to land on feet (not necessarily will be successful every time, mind, but increases likliehood). Movement becomes easier and reflexes are a bit more sensitive. Essentially, super agility is increased freedom of movement. It will allow easier dodging and the ability to pull off complex physical movements.
When conserving energy for one post, it works by letting you double your quota for the next post. Meaning, a Level 3 can make effects last for 6 posts, or create 6 manifestations, etc.
This power only works on projectile powers, making it impossible to keep a summon out for twice as long.

[Libra] - Equilibrium

[Scorpio] - Scarlet Needle
When making your index finger's nail stronger to cut with great precision, this can be used on anything solid, not just the areas specified in the Scarlet Needle sets.
The super speed aspect of the power only relates to the speed of the actual power manifestation; it does not allow the user to move at super speed.

[Sagittarius] - Phantom Arrow
Affecting senses you have the power to remove doesn't mean you have to remove the senses before you can affect them. It simply means that if, at your level, you have the ability to remove touch, then you can affect that sense.
Affecting senses may have similarities with illusions, depending on which senses you affect and how.
The power manifests as an actual arrow which must travel to the target. As such it may be dodged/avoided.

[Capricorn] - Surface
Surface only works if the only thing below you is the ground, so not a first floor for instance.

[Aquarius] - Aurora Execution
Water is created from your hands, and not from under the ground, except in the case of rain/storms.
Electrical storms can only be created if you possess the Lightning power, and not with Electricity Generation.
With the tsunami, the water will hang around the arena for level-number of general posts, and then dry up extremely quickly/instantlyish.
At level 3, by controlling where the rain goes and making it hit more severely, this just means you make it so that visibility is extremely low, not make it so severe that it's like projectiles.

[Pisces] - Rose
Roses need not come from your hand, but should be created somewhere within level-range.
You can’t create a stream/blast manifestation of roses like other projectile powers.
You may make the level 5-6 White Life-Drain Rose fall off before reaching its limit – however the enemy would recover his/her normal state.
