ADA Promotion Guideline

How Promotions Work

When starting out in ADA everyone begins as a Trainee. However, you propably did see other members who state much higher levels than that in their profiles. You wonder what got them there? They are probably good fighters, have a strong character and show good writing skills. They help other/newer members, take on tasks in the management of ADA, are very active ... etc. The list is long.

This thread is to help you get a better idea about how to get promoted. Well, in a way. We are going to give you pointers as to what you can do, but there will be no telling you what you have to do. That is up to you. Not helping, you say? Well, there is a reason for the way promotions are handled in ADA. We want you to make the most of the options you see for yourself without limiting you.

Yes, we could give you all those things we'd like to see you do. And a few of them will be named, but there is so much more to ADA than this. Because what we want you to be is to be creative. We want you to use this coven for what it is: an option to play, fight, have fun and meet great people.

So no, you won't even find timeframes in here. You can of course ask senior members about what timeframe is appropriate, but we will tell you that what they say might not apply to you. Maybe you need longer, maybe you need only half the time.

The Warlords have a very solid idea about what a certain level is, who the player and the character is, and what way they have come in ADA. But truth be told, so many have done it in so many different way that we cannot press the exact hows into a guideline.

So what follows is likely to be a very cryptic way of telling you what to do. But understand that we don't want to tell you what to do. We want you to figure out what to do.

So make a place for yourself in ADA. Do what you love and do it with all your heart. Determination, patience and dedication are honoured in ADA. Ask for help from the warlords or other members. But always remember, you're not here to level up. You're here to play. ;)

Getting Promoted

A few pointers

Trainee to Level 1
Read the rules, and make a character that gets approved. When you've done that, you will be a level 1.

Every other promotion

Dedication, creativity and patience. Those are the three things you're asked to show. Add initiative and skill in RPing and fighting to it. This is what will get you up there with the higher levels. Simply having your powers down and going through the motions with fighting hardly will get you anywhere. ADA is a small coven, everyone can rise and shine here, and everyone eventually will get center stage.

What we ask if for you to make the most of this coven. We're not here for you to just race through the levels and say you "beat the game". This game is none to beat. It ever goes on.

Be active, be an asset, be creative. Learn and grow. Those are the things you're asked to do. Help younger members, help other players to keep the coven interesting. Send in suggestions, partake in activities, create activities. Abide by the rules, and help enforce them (always contact a lv7 for that ;)). Help this coven grow, be a part of it this coven. Learn all about your powers, take them to the next level, perfect your ways of wielding them.

We know that members are different. We know you all have different reasons to come here. And we want to give you a place to do what it is you want to do. We simply ask - for those pesky promotions - that in return you help us make this a place that is enjoyable to other members as it hopefully is to you.

The Promotion Form

Asking For Promotion

Information about the Form
Once you feel ready for promotion, you may send in a form with which you put yourself up for promotion discussion. The Form would be the following: Username:
Current Level + Powers:
Level + Power Aiming Towards:
Last Promotion Date:
Reason for Deserving Promotion:
Completed Task:

What we ask you to is to tell us why you think you should be promoted. And you should make a good case for yourself. Be creative, think outside the box, impress us.

And no, fancy formatting doesn't impress any lv7 in this game any longer. A very simply list with normal bolded headlines is preferred to boxes and all that shiz. This is where you have to think outside the box. Take the time to really make sure that with everything you did and were a part of you just have to get that promotion, or just think outside the box. Keep it simple, keep it bearable but make it good.

However, just so you know, actually linking us to things you did will always help ;).

Chamber of Trial
It may happen that Council deem it necessary to have a member further test their skills. Here members will be summoned to participate in a One on One fight with a member of Council. The fight's outcome will then be used as a basis to decide whether the promotion is given out or not.

Chamber of Trials

The Guide

What are the Chamber of Trials?
The chambers are a place where you might be put up for a fight against a Council member or other higher level to show whether what you have what it takes to move onto next level. These fights will be looked at by Council members (Warlords) and you will be given feedback on them.
You should be aware that this is a way to determine whether you should move up when lv7s are not sure on a promotion. Doing well in a Chamber of Trials fight can tip the votes, it cannot make up for lacking in other areas.

How do you request a Chamber Fight?
You PM an ADA lv7 and ask for it. If you get such fight, you will hear back. If you don't hear back then that's the cue for you that you need to work on other parts of your activity first.
You may also be asked to enter a Chamber of Trials fight. But that could be a rare occasion.

Mandatory? Voluntary?
Sending in a promotion form does not automatically mean that you will be asked into the trials. You could just be promoted without such a fight. If you are asked to enter one you can also decline if you wish to work on your skills first. There is no pressure or anything. It's all up to you.

Winning and Promotions?
Well, at first, this fight is not one to win. This fight is to do well, to show that you know what an ADA fighter should have. This includes reacting realistically to an attack, being able to take a hit, make lethal moves, use all your powers to their extent and so on.
And no matter how well you think you did, there are 5 if not more judges to evaluate the trials, so even the proverbial "victory" in the trials do not automatically score you a promotion.
