Doctor Who will have three glamorous assistants in the next series - after Billie Piper agreed to a surprise comeback.
BBC chiefs are delighted that Billie, 25, is to star in at least three episodes to round off the next run, which starts in March.
The Time Lord, played by David Tennant, starts with Donna (Catherine Tate) as his helper, is then joined by Martha (Freema Agyeman) and then reunites with Billie's character Rose for the finale. A source said: "With Donna, Martha and Rose competing to assist him, Dr Who is going to be spoilt for choice."
Since quitting, Billie has often admitted she misses the show which turned her into a major TV star. The actress told The Mirror: "Doctor Who is a big part of my life. I've missed it since I left and I love David Tennant."
She was persuaded to return by her family. Billie added: "My mum is the biggest Doctor Who fan ever. I feel bad about not being in this year's Christmas special with Kylie Minogue."
As Rose, Billie proved a huge hit, winning awards two years running.
Next year's 13-part series will end with an explosive plot, before taking a break for just a few specials in 2009. The series returns in 2010.
Billie will star as Sally Lockhart in the BBC1 adaptation of Philip Pullman's Shadow in the North this Christmas.

Following a series of unconfirmed reports across the media this morning, we're delighted to officially confirm that Billie Piper will return as Rose Tyler in Series Four of Doctor Who.
Anything you may read elsewhere about when, how or for how long Rose returns to Doctor Who should be treated as pure speculation at this point.

You've not seen season 3 yet? Its rather good, a little slow to start (because at first they were writing Martha too much like she was Rose, when she's nothing like her.) but it picked up speed and was very excellent :D
I'm rather looking forward to the Christmas episode. Less than a month to go :woot:

Yeah, it is that one. There was also a filler special called Time Crash, where Peter Davidson's Doctor met David Tennant's on a charity show last week. Click Me! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dxDxXOnjGk) if you didn't see it.
Also, there have been pictures of Billie on set appearing already. Piccy 1! (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u300/Brian_Damage_photos/26-11-2007/DSCF1479H.jpg) and Piccy 2 (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u300/Brian_Damage_photos/26-11-2007/DSCF1470H.jpg). It's looking good!

An illusion for at least three episodes? Bringing her back from the alternate reality she's trapped in is inplausible enough, methinks :-p

Although I'm all :DYAY:D about Billie's return, I'm a bit worried about how they will pull it off. The ending to Doomsday was fantastic and I'm just worried that this will ruin it

Taken from the LJ community "Time & Chips" who took it from Outpost Gallifrey (and is in relation to the photo's BEx linked us too a few posts back)
This photo (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u300/Brian_Damage_photos/26-11-2007/DSCF1479H.jpg) and this (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u300/Brian_Damage_photos/26-11-2007/DSCF1470H.jpg) much better one were taken by an Outpost Gallifrey contributor who returned earlier this very hour from watching some filming in a residential street near Cardiff Bay with Catherine Tate and Billie.
To quote:
'It was an odd scene being recorded with Donna and Rose and at the end of it Rose seemed to 'disappear' in front of Donna as far as I could tell from Donna's reaction after a largely inaudible dialogue section - although I think I heard Donna say "The Doctor's dead" at one point.'

the penultimate episode of season four takes place on some kind of post-apocalyptic Earth, overrun with Daleks, where greenhouse gases are at an all-time high. Rose and Captain Jack both run around with giant enormous guns. And the Doctor gets shot down by Daleks at some point, and Rose and Jack rush to try and revive him and get him back to the TARDIS. Then the Daleks transfer the TARDIS to the Crucible (their ship?) and it vanishes while Mickey, Jackie and Sarah Jane watch. So far I'm enjoying this series (although I kind of freaked out that The Sontaran Stratagem was part of a double episode :(). But I have to say that I'm looking forward to this mild spoiler coming up in episode 6!
The Doctor lands on the remote planet Messaline as an age-old war rages and the threat of genocide looms. When Martha is kidnapped by the Hath, the Doctor is distracted by "the most important woman in his life." Russell T. Davies has stated that this episode "does exactly as it says on the tin."

I just loved Donna when she said "Out of space Facebook" :elol: and Rose with the two guys thieving and her "Do you like my gun?" thing. I did like the bit with Davros and how the Doctor and Sarah Jane were the ones who knew who it was. The only thing I didn't like is that they killed off Harriet Jones, she was so good and WOW. As for the regeneration, me and Nick reckon they'll stop it so he stays on :chin:
maybe he regenerates just enough for the wound to heal and stops it in time yeah.... I like that theory good thinking Kieran and Nick!

Alright. Just watched the confidential. I really am doubting that DT's leaving now. With Chris Eccleston, they made a big show out of him regenerating and stuff. But with David, it wasn't the same. He didn't even say a few last words about his time as the Doctor, as, if he was leaving, that would be his last confidential and wouldn't they make it a bit...special. They spent most of it talking about Davros and the Daleks :chin: I dunno, something doesn't seem quite right about that, or it could just be me.

TOTALLY FTW. MUCH LOVE.
OMG I JUST HAD A BRILLIANT THINKING!!! yes I do have them sometimes :-p So what if while he regenerates his hands start to glow and he absorbs the hand and it'll heal him? So yeah what you just said Jane about his hand still being part of his 10th generation could work this way :chin:

What did everyone make of the Osterhagen Key that Martha has? Perhaps there will be some way to save DT that way?
Osterhagen is an anagram of "Earth's gone"
Also a google search for Osterhagen brings up "Burning Man"
Is it possible it was really Harriett's hand we see at The Master's funeral pyre? Maybe the rumor's of the Simm appearance will refer more to a flashback scene.
Osterhagen was also a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp during WWII.
Oster in German means East or Easter. Osterhagan means East/Easter Grove.
Groves are sacred places of worship for pagans. One of the most well known is Dodona in northern Greece which worship Zeus. Also sacred groves have been used for animal and human sacrifice (the Celts for one practise this).
Easter, as we know is about the death and resurrection of a 3-fold man (Jesus Christ: the father, the son and the holy ghost).

I'm not sure where I heard this, but I did hear that there was going to be a woman doctor in the next series, but that could just be a rumour, and they aren't sure if David's going to come back, but I hope it doesn't happen. I'd cry if David left, I like David as the doctor.
I loved seeing Rose back though, it's been great, and although I don't really want to see the last episode I do, I just hope it isn't too bad. But this series has been good.

The official preview is out for the season finale of "Doctor Who" airing this coming weekend in the UK and on August 1st in the US.
Last week's cliffhanger shocked a lot of people, and whilst the network did NOT air a 'Next Time' trailer as per usual, they have put out this today. Be warned as it gives away some some big spoilers from last week's episode. [Video at DH link down at bottom]
Meanwhile old rumors of Robert Carlyle replacing David Tennant as The Doctor have emerged again in The Daily Mail. Other tabloids also indicate that Tennant will be offered a substantial salary to return for the fifth season in 2010.

DT:
I thought David was confirmed for the three specials during 2009 (and if there is a xmas 2008, that as well). I know he's doing a lot of stage acting at present but I was under the impression that it's part (not all of the reason!) that DW is leaving S5 til 2010 anyway. DW wants DT to stay and he seems to want to continue in the role.
Can't believe there's only a few more hours left til tonight's ep. I'll probably go into work early again and watch it on the big screen!

A film version of the recently revived British sci-fi serial "Doctor Who" could take place in the near future says new showrunner Steven Moffat according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it is great and fantastic. I'm not against it ... so long as it never gets in the way of the TV show. If it got in the way of the show that would be appalling" said Moffat, speaking at a master class on the show at a festival in London.
The news comes the day after a recent UK poll cited the series as the number one small screen property Britons would like to see on film, beating out "Friends," "Red Dwarf," "Heroes," "CSI," "Spooks," "24" and "Lost". Almost ten million viewers watched the season finale last month in the UK.
"Queer as Folk" creator Russell T. Davies has served as show runner on the series since its restart after a sixteen year hiatus in 2005. Acclaimed scribe Moffat takes over the show starting in 2010 and reportedly turned down penning the script of at least one further "Tintin" sequel for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson to concentrate on doing the job right.

I've been keeping up with the discussion here a little ... and while I wouldn't say I belong to the DW fandom (there's LOFE, not sure it's fandom style yet though :-p) I still wouldn't wanna see the show ridiculed due to a movie? What I LOVE about DW is how they keep stories they did before in mind and come back to them. Too many shows these days have continuity errors because the writers or even producers don't bother looking back at what happened earlier? So if Tennant doesn't sign on for the movie, I'd prefer they just don't do it alltogether.

Xmas Spoof Spoiler Thingy:
Just... ew, no way. As much as I like HP, it would completely spoil & make a ridicule out of DW. If they really want to, combine HP with anything DW-related, then there's always the Sarah Jane Adventures, that's the show more geared towards kids anyway and I can just choose not to acknowledge it (even though I actually watch SJA from time to time).
As for a movie, it would have to be tastefully done to keep in tune with the show. Like Serenity. The link between Firefly & Serenity was so obvious that the movie was kinda like an extended tv episode - something that fitted with previous storylines and presumably would line up for future opportunities. So long as the movie doesn't ruin things, it would be awesome!

And the winner is... Matt Smith (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1741002/)
The BBC today announced that Matt Smith has been cast in the role of the Doctor in the iconic BBC series Doctor Who. Smith will be the eleventh Time Lord and will take over from David Tennant who leaves the show at the end of 2009. He will be seen in the forthcoming fifth series that will be broadcast in 2010.
The fifth series will also have a new lead writer and Executive Producer in the form of the BAFTA award winning writer Steven Moffat who is taking over from Russell T Davies. Moffat will be joined by Piers Wenger who will be the new Executive Producer for BBC Wales making the show.
Following David Tennant's decision to step down at the end of 2009, the team behind the new series set about casting the new Doctor so that new adventures could be created and scripts written with Matt in mind.
The identity of the new Doctor was revealed on a special edition of Doctor Who Confidential that was broadcast on BBC One on January 3rd at 17.35hrs. In it Smith revealed his initial reaction at taking on such a legendary role and his thoughts on what direction the Doctor might now be going with him playing the part.
Matt Smith said of his new role "I'm just so excited about the journey that is in front of me. It's a wonderful privilege and challenge that I hope I will thrive on. I feel proud and honoured to have been given this opportunity to join a team of people that has worked so tirelessly to make the show so thrilling.
"David Tennant has made the role his own, brilliantly with grace, talent and persistent dedication. I hope to learn from the standards set by him. The challenge for me is to do justice to the show's illustrious past, my predecessors and most importantly to those who watch it. I really cannot wait."
Lead writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat said "The Doctor is a very special part, and it takes a very special actor to play him. You need to be old and young at the same time, a boffin and an action hero, a cheeky schoolboy and the wise old man of the universe. As soon as Matt walked through the door and blew us away with a bold and brand new take on the Time Lord, we knew we had our man. 2010 is a long time away but rest assured the Eleventh Doctor is coming - and the universe has never been so safe."
Piers Wenger, Head Of Drama, BBC Wales added "With two hearts, a ferocious mind and over 900 years of experience behind him, it's not every 26 year old actor who can take on a role like the Doctor but within moments of meeting Matt he showed the skill and imagination needed to create a Doctor all of his own.
It's just the beginning of the journey for Matt but with Steven Moffat's scripts and the expertise of the production team in Cardiff behind him, there is no one more perfect than him to be taking the TARDIS to exciting new futures when the series returns in 2010."
Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama added "I am delighted to see Matt take on this iconic role. It will see him continuing his relationship with the BBC following his performances in Ruby In The Smoke and Party Animals, and his upcoming role in Moses Jones. The combination of Matt, Steven and Piers will, I know, take Doctor Who onto new and even dizzier heights."
Jay Hunt, Controller. BBC ONE said "Matt Smith will be a mesmerising eleventh Time Lord, true to the spirit of the show. He is a worthy successor to David Tennant who has been utterly remarkable in the role and promises to continue to be in next year's four special episodes."
Exclusive interview with Matt Smith coming soon.

Let me start off by saying: Do not want! But I'm not going to whine about it until I've seen his first few episodes. Even then there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it as the decision has been made, so I'll probably not whine. I'm interested in seeing Eleven's personality more than his looks. I'm also in agreement with Vix, apart from Tennant the only other Doctor's to be remotely good looking were Davison and Eccleston. Then again, I also feel the need to point out that Pertwee (3) has always freaked me out a little. But the Doctor has always been about personality rather than looks for me if I have to be honest; It's his eccentricities that make him the lovable character that he is. But that's just my two cents.
I just think we've been spoiled to much with Chris and David as the previous two doctors that my expectation for another hottie grew.
And yeah I'm going to wait and see how he turns out as the doctor but still I'm not happy with it
